Key Top Replacement

Why replace key tops?

In a single piece of music you might play 10,000 notes to learn the simplest of pieces.  These repeated taps on the keys wear down the key-tops.  First a chip here, then a chip there, after a year or two the key tops are missing little pieces across the keyboard.  When you don't have a good surface to play with you can cut your fingers, learn to play a piece only on that piano or simply not play a piece of music at all.  The worst case is the key tops shift and scrap against neighboring keys.

Mr. Schwinn's shop was built around the idea of efficently and reliably replace piano keytops. He even built three table planes before he settled on his current set up. Three precision adjustable trimming planes. View the gallery for photos of his shop and an actual keytop replacemnt.
